Confucius Institute At Egerton University
The Confucius Institute at Egerton University (CIEU) was launched on 13th December, 2012 and is a partnership between Egerton University and the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF) under the Ministry of Education of China and Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU). It is the only Confucius Institute in the world which primarily focuses on Agriculture with Chinese Language and Cultural education programming, CIEU has been awarded several awards of “Confucius Institute of the Year” several years. The Chinese Ambassador has visited CIEU on various occasions with the aim of strengthening stronger ties between the Nations and Institutions involved.

Egerton University.
CIEU is a Centre for Agricultural Technology Transfer between China and Kenya where the Sino-Kenyan Joint Laboratory on Molecular Biology sanctioned by the Chinese Premier is located. This Joint Laboratory is meant for training of Young African Scientists on modern up to date Agricultural Molecular Technology and Innovations in the African continent. CIEU is also a Centre for the Teaching of the Chinese Language and Culture to the African society. In addition to being a professional development and workshop center, CIEU is a resource library with more than 4000 print and multimedia materials for educators and students from all academic levels. The Confucius Institute at Egerton University is open to the general public.

The institute successfully worked on the professional development programs and workshops for Agricultural Scientists in the region and training of Chinese language teachers from Kenya.
CIEU undertakes beginning, intermediate and advanced Chinese language courses for students and staff.
We focus on Chinese Culture and history courses and workshops for staff and students.
In a bid to expand more International Partnership and Linkages, the Directorate is in the process of:
Planning to establish Resource Center for the teaching of Chinese Language and Culture – That will be open to the general public, free to use planning to coordinate the study of agricultural research training programs between Nanjing Agricultural University and Egerton University.
Establishment of a computer lab for technology based workshops and Chinese Language training centre.
Support and advocacy for schools and districts which are interested in teaching Chinese language.
Hosting of agricultural scientists and educational delegations from China and abroad.
Hosting visiting visual and performing artists from China to present and offer workshops in Egerton and areas.
Pre-travel cultural orientation seminars for the Egerton staff and educational communities
The CIEU is currently being managed under the auspicious leadership of two Directors :-
