SUMMARY

Dr Samuel Nyamweya, PhD, is a lecturer in the department of Human Pathology. He  Is initially trained as veterin ary surgeon from the University of Nairobi and then later did an Msc in Biomedical Sciences from London Metropolitan University in the UK. 

He started working at the pharmaceutical industry having worked for Pan Pharmaceuticals in Nairobi, before being employed by the ministry of Livestock production. Later upon completion of his masters degree, Dr Nyamweya worked for the UK Medcial Research Council for some years working between the UK and The Gambia where he worked on several projects including the measles vaccination trials and HIV immunology during which he enrolled for a PhD in HIV studies.  Upon completion of his PhD studies Dr Nyamweya worked for the  Public Health England (UK) where he worked as a scientist evaluating vaccines. It is from here that he came to Egerton as a lecture in the department of Human pathology. He currently teaches Immunology, General pathology and microbiology.

Dr Nyamweya has attended and made oral and poster presentations various conferences in various parts of the world including the UK, Canada, USA, France, Belgium, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, among others.  In France he was awarded as the best presenter for the conference. 

Dr Nyamweya is married to one wife with grown up children in various stages of their schooling, two of them now in universities.

Dr Nyamweya is a born again Christian, a member of the SDA church and serves in various churches in development, health fields and special interest groups as well as a choir sponsor. He is a member of an interdenominational fellowship called the Revival fellowship, interacting well with members of other churches.  He volunteers in various projects in the communities where he has lived. He is currently the chairman of the welfare subcommittee of the faculty of Health Sciences in Egerton university as well as in other projects in his home town at Keroka.

Dr Nyamweya also volunteered with the Dean of Students office in Egerton helping fresh students to settle down and talking to them matters health.  He has previously volunteered with the National AIDS control Council helping in the fight against HIV.

He was later appointed b y the vice chancelor to work with the Dean of Students office in Egerton as an Assistant Dean of Studenbts  for two years from 2021 June to July 2023

He is currently the Chair of Department of the department of Human Pathology at Egerton University from March 2023 to date
