SUMMARY

Dr. Ongowo is a Lecturer at Egerton University in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.Dr. Ongowo holds a PhD in Sociology with a bias in Social Policy, Master of Arts in Sociology (Community Development and Project Management). Dr Ongowo is an Expert in GBV and SRH Programming, Mixed Research Methods, Project Management and a trainer of Trainers in a Peace Building. Dr. Ongowo teaches Sociological Theories, Gender and Development, Conflict Management and Peace Building, Public Policy, Social Research Methods and Community Development and Social Welfare.

Dr Ongowo has over 10 years’ progressive responsibility and Programming experience in Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC),  Protections, GBV and SRH and Policy Analysis. I have a passion for holitic programming for Women, Girls and boys affected by violence, Action Research, Public Policy Analysis that promote Socio-Economic Development and Transformation. In addition, I have over 6 years’ experience at the university conducting research, teaching and examining students on Sociology and Public Policy courses.

Dr. Ongowo, previously worked for Centre for Conflict Resolution-Kenya and Catholic Relief Services where he implemented peace building projects and provided technical assistance to grantees to Local Implementing organizations. During this period,Dr. Ongowo was involved in action research that informed project implementation.

Designed the data collection tools, coordinated and supervised data collection, analyzed the data and compiled the report.

Dec 2022- Jan 2023         Contracted by Seed Savers Network Kenya to document Sexual and Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response negligence cases by Duty Bearers in Baringo and Nakuru Counties

Aug- Oct 2022               Contracted by UNFPA as an Individual Consultant for Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) County Program Coordinator. As result I developed Kisumu County GBV actor’s directory, Coordinated GBV Emergency Preparedness, Represented UNFPA in Humanitarian Hub Meetings, Held Coordination meeting with HMTs and also represented UNFPA in the International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
