Benard Boyi (Bebo) Tribute
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Benard Boyi popularly known as Bebo, whose journey with Egerton University began in 1984 as a general worker, contributing to the construction of the iconic ARC Hotel. In 1987, he officially joined the University, starting in the Horticulture Department before transferring to the ARC Hotel as a gardener. Later, he served in the Dairy Department as a messenger, where he also sold milk on behalf of the University.
In 2000, Bebo was affected by the Kenya Government Civil Service retrenchment programme, but his connection to Egerton remained strong. He started a photography business that became an essential part of campus life. His work capturing events and portraits of staff and students left a lasting legacy. Beyond his photography, Bebo offered invaluable assistance to various offices by helping organize archived photos, preserving Egerton’s rich history. His deep knowledge of the institution earned him the respect of many, and he became known as the embodiment of "institutional memory."
Though he faced health challenges that got worse in May, Bebo had enjoyed good health throughout most of his life. His contribution to Egerton University will forever be remembered through the many photos and memories he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, Bebo.
