On Surturday 16th July 2022, Egerton University hosted a conference to sensitize finalist students and alumni on Traineeship Internship opportunities available in Denmark and other Nordic countries, especially for students pursuing studies in the Agriculture field. The Conference was organised by the Egerton Alumni Relations Office, the Directorate of International Linkages and Career Services and the Dean of Students Office. The external conference facilitators were Glorbit Access Link Limited (Kenya, Uganda & USA) and Bixter Training Limited (Denmark). Among the presenters at the Conference included Dr. Stephen Kinara (CEO Glorbit Access Link, USA), Emmanuel Majanga (Glorbit Access Link, Uganda) and Lily Kozyreva (Bixter Training Limited, Denmark).
More than 200 Egerton University students and alumni attended the conference either in person at ARC Hotel or virtually.
After the conference, students interested in the Traineeship Programme were encouraged to apply. The Alumni Relations Office will work with Academic Departments to recommend qualifying students. Successful applicants will be placed on paid internships to work for up to 18 months on farms in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands. The programme aims at encouraging skills transfer for young Kenyan graduates in the areas of horticulture, poultry farming, pig farming, dairy farming, green house farming and hospitality.
Egerton University was represented by Dr. Masaya Chakava and Fridah Murugi from the Alumni Relations Office while Benson Muriithi represented the Dean of Students Office. The leaders of the Egerton University Students Union (SUEU), led by their Chairman, Mr. Dennis Odero, also attended the conference.
