Empowering STEM Careers: A Resounding Success at the Career Guidance Talk by Shadow A Scientist - Innovation Stewards Egerton Association
On March 20, 2025, the Shadow A Scientist - Innovation Stewards Egerton Association hosted an impactful Career Guidance Talk at the Faculty of Science Complex, Room PST 3, starting at 10 a.m. Organized under the auspices of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the event drew approximately 20 undergraduate students and four academic staff members who served as facilitators. Dr. Lelmen, the Chair of the Department and the association’s patron, graced the occasion alongside esteemed departmental staff, including Dr. Karori, Dr. Mang’era, and Dr. Ondigo.

The event featured a series of insightful sessions designed to equip students with practical tools for career development in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematic (STEM) fields. Topics ranged from career planning and CV writing to self-assessment, networking, and professional growth. Attendees gained valuable clarity on diverse career paths and learned how to navigate the ever-evolving job market. Interactive discussions highlighted the importance of presenting a professional front, leveraging mentorship, and acquiring in-demand skills such as genomics, big data analysis, programming, code writing, and geospatial applications in scientific research.
The SAS-Innovation Stewards Egerton Association extended its heartfelt gratitude to the speakers for their dedication and expertise, which provided students with invaluable insights to shape their futures. The event reinforced the association’s mission to empower young scientists through mentorship, career exposure, and hands-on learning opportunities. By fostering confidence and purpose, the talk marked a significant step forward in preparing students in BSc Biomedical Science and Technology and BSc Biochemistry to excel in their career journeys and contribute meaningfully to the STEM fields
