TAGDev Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement Summer School


Overview:

  • The Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa's Growth and Development (TAGDev) Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement Summer School (TECESS) provides an immersive introduction to the journey of creating a new venture and community engagement.
  • With a one-week schedule filled with experiential learning, field visits, lectures, business games, recitations, and activities, students will learn how a successful startup is created through different business modeling approaches (Design Thinking, Lean Start, and Agile Approach), as well as obtain core techniques in the areas of community engagement through field visits.
  • The students will also learn how to position themselves to the different employment opportunities in the labor market through the use of the Career Innovation toolkit.
  • Ultimately, the program will challenge students to collaborate with peers, use innovative thinking, network, co-learn, and develop a pitch for an early-stage startup.
  • Whether students plan to start their own company or become innovators within an established organization, this program will encourage students to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset that can be applied across numerous fields. 

The process:

  • The application deadline is 15th April, 2024
  • The summer school will be from 22nd - 26th April, 2024
  • The main program will feature live lectures, group work, and best practice discussions with guest speakers, including entrepreneurs, policymakers, educationists, and government officials.
  • You will learn key entrepreneurship and community engagement skills and work on your chosen business idea with your teams.
  • The TAGDev team will provide digital tools and coaching to support you in this process. On the last day of the (TECESS), you will pitch your identified business ideas to a jury, and the best teams awarded.

 

Selection criteria:

  • The TECESS is open to dedicated undergraduate (Degree and Diploma) and postgraduate students in Egerton Universities, Njoro Polytechnic, Baraka Agricultural College, Dairy Training Institute (DTI) Naivasha, Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology, and Bukura Agricultural College.
  • Students engaged in any form of entrepreneurship at a community level or business level will be an added advantage.
