Call For Innovation Proposal.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THIS CALL

The Kenya’s Vision 2030 recognizes innovations as a critical component in increasing socio-economic transformation of the country. Innovation is the embodiment of thorough process whereby ideas are transformed into new or improved products, services and processes. Innovation leads to improved productivity, efficiency and quality of life which is fundamental to increasing wealth in an economy and thus positively impacting on society. The mission of the University is to generate knowledge and offer exemplary education to contribute to and innovatively influence national and global development. In order to achieve this mission, staff must be actively involved in research. To support this endeavour, the University has provided funding for innovation proposals in this financial year (2022/23).  This call targets 4-5 proposals each with a budget of five to six hundred thousand Kenya shillings.

ADMISSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Egerton University researchers with near ready innovations, or those requiring support for IP registration and commercialization.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Innovation proposals that;

  1. Need support to validate a new /improved product, process or service and/or
  2. Describe a product/process or service with potential for registration and/or
  3. Describe a product/ process or service with potential or ready for commercialization

FORMAT

The proposal not exceeding 8 pages in double space, Times New Roman, (Font 12) should

clearly include:

  • Title page: project title (≤ 15 words), author(s) and department.
  • Concise summary of the proposal
  • Introduction
  • Description of the IP

-Rationale and justification for the innovation

-Innovation readiness level

  • Potential for registration and commercialization
  • Expected output & outcome: intended and specific contribution to socioeconomic development
  • Workplan: Activities within quarterly periods
  • A budget NOT exceeding KES 600,000/=

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

Only staff in active employment can apply

SELECTION CRITERIA

Proposals will be evaluated by an evaluation team consisting of independent reviewers. The reviews will be blind and will consist of a scoring matrix and narrative assessments.

DATA PROTECTION

In accordance with clause 9 of the Egerton University Intellectual Property Rights policy, mechanisms to safeguard any registrable content will be put in place, during proposal review and evaluation of all proposals.
