Senior Appointments at Egerton University
Egerton University is pleased to announce several senior appointments made by Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage to key roles within the institution.
Prof. Nzula Kitaka: Director of Marketing and Resource Mobilization
Effective from 28 June 2024, Prof. Nzula Kitaka has been appointed as the Director of Marketing and Resource Mobilization for a period of three years. In her new role, Prof. Kitaka will be responsible for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the Resource Mobilization Strategy, setting targets for resource generation, promoting public relations, communication, and marketing activities, and fostering strong linkages with the Alumni Association and industry for partnerships and collaborations.
Prof. Kitaka is an Associate Professor and a renowned researcher in Aquatic/Water Science at Egerton University. She has previously served as the Director of the Board of Postgraduate Studies from July 2016 to July 2022. Prof. Kitaka has supervised numerous Master's and PhD students, published extensively in refereed journals, and is a reviewer for several journals and a proposal assessor for funding. She is also the Vice President of Africa-UniNet and a member of the Advisory Board for Water-WISER CDT, a consortium of UK universities training PhD students in WASH.
Prof. Kitaka's contributions extend to her role as a Director at Local Ocean Conservation, protecting sea turtles along the Kenyan coast. She has been a key figure in several collaborative research projects and is a founder of the Tropical Limnology Course, which has evolved into major regional training for water scientists and managers. Her partnerships have led to significant events such as the 36th and 41st WEDC International conferences hosted at Egerton University.

- Prof. Fredrick Kalui has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, effective from 2 July 2024, for a period of two years.
- Dr Joshua Ayiemba has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Philosophy, History, and Religious Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, effective from 1 July 2024, for a period of three years.
- Dr Margaret Githiri has been re-appointed as Acting Chairperson of the Department of Natural Resources at the Faculty of Environment and Resources Development, effective from 24 July 2024, for a period of three years.
- Prof. Gilbert O. Obwoyere has been re-appointed as the Director of Examinations and Timetabling, effective from 16 June 2024, for a period of three years.
- Prof. Hillary Bett has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management at the Faculty of Agriculture, effective from 1 May 2024, for a period of three years.
- Dr Joel K. Ng’eno has been re-appointed as Chairman of the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Education Management, effective from 12 March 2024, for a period of three years.
- Prof. Joshua K. Kibet was appointed as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, following his nomination and election by the Faculty Board on 31 May 2023. His appointment took effect in June 2023 for a period of two years.
